GOLFING SOCIETY
THE ROYAL BRITISH CLUB GOLFING SOCIETY was founded in 1974 at their home Club of ESTORIL GOLF COURSE. Once a month, always the first Wednesday, a Stableford competition is organised followed by a convivial lunch. It has become a tradition to travel away once a year to play for a couple of days.
Everyone is welcome – the only criteria being that they are Members of the RBC and that the gentlemen have a handicap of up to 28 and the ladies 36. Any number of guests may be invited, but we do stipulate that the same guest is only allowed twice a year.
The annual cost is 40 Euros – player and 10 euros non-player, from January to December. A new Captain of the Society takes over every January.
The regular monthly matches are usually sponsored by local companies and reported in the local press. Over the years we were lucky to have the backing of:
- General Cable CelCat Energia e Telecomunicações S.A.
- Axa Portugal Companhia de Seguros S.A.
- Portucale Soc. de Desenvolvimento Agro-Túristico S.A.
- Rankin Bros. & Sons
- Hotel Baia Cascais
- Beefeater Club Cascais
- Commercial Union Seguros
- Mr. Bruce E. Dawson
- Blevins Franks International Ltd
- National Geographic Society
Another popular feature of our calendar is the annual match against the Barmen´s Association of Portugal. Visiting teams from England are always welcomed whenever they come on holiday and are looking for a game. Finally a TRI-SOC competition is organised once a year, between the Tagus Society, the RBCGS and a team from NATO here in Portugal known as the PINGS. Each year the winners take on the task of arranging the following year´s game.
