After days of thunder, lightning and torrential rain the day dawned clear and dry for the Royal British Club Golfing Society’s second attempt at playing for the Royal British Club Cup. This event had been postponed earlier this month because of bad weather and players were relieved to finally see better conditions. However, the course was not ideal with parts still wet and muddy, providing tough conditions for good golf. Nevertheless some members managed to turn in decent scores in spite of the heavy conditions.
The first three prize winners all scored 35 points. After a count back the winner was declared to be Graham Dewar, followed by Ron Goddard in second place and Eddie Leitao in third. Fourth, fifth and sixth places also required a count back with Peter Rydin coming fourth, Andrew Jones fifth and Hans Ludolphi sixth – all scoring 32 points. Kate Scheier won the Newstead Cup with 31 points. Nearest the Pin prizes went to Teresa Negrao for the Ladies and Chris Goulding for the Men. This month’s hard fought Cow Bell was won by Isabel Nygren.
Lunch was served at the Estoril Golf Club Restaurant where John Duggan, Executive Committee Member for our patron, The Royal British Club, gave a speech thanking members of the Society for their continued support and briefly covering the services and monthly events organised by the Club. Captain Bill Buxton announced that the end of year competition – the President’s Baffy and d'Arcy Orders Cup - would be played on Wednesday, December 7th, followed by a Gala dinner at the Farol Design Hotel, Cascais.
