Royal British Club Trophy 2010 - Captain's Report

This month the Royal British Club Golfing Society had a very large field to play for the generously sponsored Royal British Club Trophy – and the weather was beautiful, a great change after last month's downpour. Thirty two players – including 6 guests - completed the round but, for some reason scores were not very impressive. Perhaps the very fast greens caused problems?

L to r: Graham Dewar, Winner Bill Buxton, John Duggan and George Everett
We were grateful to Mr John Duggan, a member of the Royal British Club Committee for presented the prizes, and for giving us an update on the initiatives being taken by the Committee to revitalise the Club. Awarding the prizes to the first six players was a little more complicated than usual because of numerous count backs. Winner, Bill Buxton, with 31 points was followed by George Everett in second place, Graham Dewar and Isabel Nygren in third and fourth places respectively – obviously all on the count back. In fifth place was Derek McIvor followed by David Jackson both with 30 points after another countback. The Newstead Trophy was won by David Thomas, and the Nearest the pin for Men was awarded to Ewan Rankin. The Captain decided to award two guest prizes this month – Lady guest to Evelyne Marret and the Men’s guest prize to Melvyn Shoob. Axel Beslin won the Cow Bell with the free lesson from professional Gordon Young and Brenda Leitao won the Captain’s Mini Cowbell – a single malt whisky.
The next, and last, competition of the year will be for the President's Baffy on December 3rd followed by the annual gala dinner at the Hotel Inglaterra, Estoril.
