THE ROYAL BRITISH CLUB is an important part of the Greater Lisbon scene. The Club was founded in 1888 and received royal patronage in 1903 after a state visit to Portugal of King Edward VII, which it maintains to this day. His/Her Ambassador to Portugal is our President. Our club fosters a warm and welcoming social environment through its many events each year. These can be formal such as a cocktail party at the British Embassy and our Gala dinners, or they can be informative with guest speakers and/or presentations. These are often over an informal lunch at which possible new business connections can be made. We do, however, aim to provide many fun and relaxed activities. Examples include wine tasting at local vineyards, monthly “Happy Hours” in both Lisbon and Cascais, the traditional Christmas lunch, and for significant sporting events, such as the Rugby World Cup, as well as many others. We try to be as varied and inclusive as possible with all our activities, to ensure everyone has the opportunity to take part and enjoy themselves. | (25th April Bridge over the River Tagus) The current membership of around 400 typically reside in the Greater Lisbon area, hence our focus on Lisbon and Cascais events. The variety of the events will ensure you are never at a loss for what to do during the year and will have many opportunities to meet interesting people from all walks of life while making new friends along the way. Prospective new members are welcome to attend our monthly Lisbon and Cascais Happy Hours where they will have the opportunity to meet members and understand the club before making any commitments to join. |
